Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra:
The Berlin based Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra consists of 18 young musicians with different musical and cultural backgrounds. Founded in 2006, the ensemble is characterized by "fearless curiosity and openness for almost everything" (H. Sieverts) and plays with the highest precision compositions of reed-player and head of the Band, Daniel Glatzel. He is regarded as “one of the most interesting and individual composers in the Jazz-Scene” (Jazzzeitung). Beyond Jazz, new music, classical music and pop, his music gives each instrument of this unusual cast room.
This unique hybrid of Big Band, chamber ensemble and prog-rock-orchestra creates an energy which is accesible for all kinds of listeners. Stylistically open-minded, structurally complex and pure fun on stage, the Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra has performed at Jazzfest Berlin, Philharmonie/Berlin, Volksbühne Berlin, Kampnagel Hamburg, Paradiso/Amsterdam, German JazzMeeting/Bremen, Gasteig München, Philharmonie Köln, Porgy & Bess/Wien, Dresdner Jazztage, JazzBaltica, Gare du nord/Basel and has been on tour to South Korea, Kazachstan und South America.
"...the woodwind player Daniel Glatzel formed a unique ensemble that succeeds in fitting a square peg into a round hole. It’s music that is young rebellion but incredibly wise in its realization, completely exhausts the range of instruments’ potential while creating a clearly defined group sound without making the addition of just one instrument superfluous, and is, above all, profound and serious but simultaneously as funny as anything found in the field of serious music."
